Hunyuan Qi

Hunyuan Qi is the central concept of Zhineng Qigong — the primordial, undivided life force that unites body, mind, and the universe. Discover how Dr. Pang Ming's theory of Hunyuan Qi underpins every method of self-healing.

In Zhineng Qigong, Hunyuan Qi is understood as the original, whole-entity Qi that permeates all of existence. The term hunyuan means 'mixed and unified into one whole,' describing a state of energy before it separates into distinct forms. Dr. Pang Ming placed this concept at the foundation of Zhineng Qigong science, teaching that health, healing, and spiritual development all arise from cultivating and harmonizing this unified Qi.

What Is Hunyuan Qi?

Hunyuan Qi is the fundamental substance and energy of the universe in Zhineng Qigong theory. It is the state of Qi before differentiation — a primordial, whole-entity force in which matter, energy, and information are unified. Dr. Pang Ming called this the Hunyuan whole-entity, the true nature of reality that underlies all phenomena.

Because Hunyuan Qi connects everything into one whole, the human body, the mind, and the natural environment are never truly separate. This is why Zhineng Qigong practice emphasizes the relationship between the practitioner and the universe: by opening to the Hunyuan Qi field, a person can draw in fresh Qi, release stagnant patterns, and restore health at every level.

External and Internal Hunyuan Qi

Dr. Pang Ming distinguished two complementary stages of practice: cultivating external Hunyuan Qi and cultivating internal Hunyuan Qi.

External Hunyuan Qi

In the external stage, the mind extends outward and merges with the Hunyuan Qi of the universe. Methods such as Lift Qi Up and La Qi train the practitioner to draw universal Qi into the body, nourishing the organs, meridians, and cells. This stage strengthens the body and builds an abundant reserve of Qi.

Internal Hunyuan Qi

In the internal stage, the mind turns inward to unify the Qi already within the body. Internal Hunyuan practice integrates Qi across the skin, tissues, muscles, tendons, blood vessels, bones, and inner organs. It improves the mind's ability to direct and control Qi, allowing healing energy to reach any part of the body that needs it.

How Hunyuan Qi Is Cultivated

Hunyuan Qi is cultivated through the core methods of Zhineng Qigong: Lift Qi Up, Chen Qi, La Qi, Wall Squat, and the Three Centres Merge. Each method uses gentle movement, breath, and — most importantly — the mind's intent (yi) to gather, unify, and direct Qi. The guiding principle is simple: where the mind goes, the Qi follows.

This is why Zhineng Qigong is as much a science of consciousness as a practice of movement. The practitioner learns to feel Qi, gather it, and merge with the greater Hunyuan Qi field, transforming both body and mind in the process.

Hunyuan Qi and Healing

At the medicine-less hospital founded by Dr. Pang Ming, more than 180,000 people were treated through the cultivation of Hunyuan Qi, with a reported success rate of around 95%. Rather than relying on medicine or surgery, patients practiced Zhineng Qigong daily, often in large groups, to create a powerful collective Hunyuan Qi field.

Hunyuan Qi Therapy is the hands-on application of this principle: a trained practitioner uses their own cultivated external Hunyuan Qi to support another person's healing. Today, Hunyuan Qi Therapy remains one of the most respected healing modalities within the Zhineng Qigong tradition.

Hunyuan Qi Therapy

Hunyuan Qi Therapy is a structured system of fostering health holistically, self-cultivation, and professional therapeutic training developed from Zhineng Qigong Science. It is based on the understanding that healing occurs when the body, Qi, and consciousness return to coherence.
