Mingjue Awakening

Mingjue is the pure consciousness at the very core of Zhineng Qigong — the awakened awareness of the true self beyond ordinary thought. Explore how Dr. Pang Ming's teachings guide practitioners from the busy conceptual mind to the clarity of Mingjue.

In Zhineng Qigong, Mingjue means 'pure consciousness' or 'clear awareness.' It refers to the deepest layer of the mind — the awareness that simply knows, before thought, judgment, or emotion arise. Dr. Pang Ming taught that awakening this pure consciousness is both the goal and the method of the highest stages of practice.

What Is Mingjue?

Mingjue is the true self — the aware presence that observes the activity of the mind without being caught by it. Unlike ordinary thinking, which is always about something, Mingjue is the clear knowing that is already present. In Zhineng Qigong it is described as the consciousness of the Shenji palace, the center of the head and the home of the mind.

Dr. Pang Ming emphasized that everyone already has this pure consciousness; it simply needs to be recognized and stabilized. The path of Mingjue awakening is therefore not about acquiring something new, but about uncovering and resting in the awareness that has always been there.

The True Self and Pure Consciousness

Most people identify with the stream of thoughts, emotions, and memories — the ordinary mind. Mingjue practice shifts this identification to the pure awareness that witnesses the mind. As this shift deepens, the practitioner experiences greater calm, clarity, and freedom from reactive patterns.

This is why Mingjue is considered both a healing practice and a path of spiritual awakening. By resting in pure consciousness, the nervous system relaxes, the Qi field harmonizes, and old patterns of suffering begin to dissolve on their own.

How Mingjue Is Cultivated

Mingjue is cultivated through the higher methods of Zhineng Qigong, especially the Three Centres Merge. In this standing practice, the practitioner gently closes the seven orifices of the head — the ears, eyes, and mouth — and withdraws the senses of vision, hearing, and smell inward toward the Shenji palace, the center of the head.

As the senses turn inward, the mind settles into its source. Practitioners may feel stillness, warmth, or a subtle vibration as pure consciousness becomes stable. Group practice amplifies this effect, creating what Dr. Pang Ming called the collective Mingjue field — a shared state of pure awareness that supports deep healing and transformation.

Mingjue and Healing

Because Mingjue is the most refined level of consciousness, healing that arises from this state reaches the deepest layers of body and mind. Many practitioners report that chronic conditions, emotional wounds, and mental suffering begin to resolve naturally as pure consciousness stabilizes.

In collective field Qigong, a group of practitioners rests together in Mingjue, and the unified Qi field does the healing work. This is the method that made the medicine-less hospital so effective, and it remains central to Zhineng Qigong today.
